Will Neutral Colors Suit Your Home?
Colors Inspire. Colors Energize. Colors Define. Something as simple as a coat of paint (or two) can change a room, redefine a space, and create a mood. Whether inside or out, the color of your space says something about you. Neutral, traditional, trendy, moody, colorful, electric – and the list goes on. Of all the elements of design, color is at the heart of it all. It is the foundation for everything else; the keystone on which all other elements hinge.
On the exterior, colors define your roofline, your brick, the windows into your home, and the front door that welcomes your visitors. On the home’s interior, colors play off of each other in your kitchen cabinets, your countertops, and your backsplash. They can add pops of fun in your playrooms, add drama in the dining room and create a mood in the bedroom.
Neutral Paint Colors Today
Neutral paint palettes are all the rage right now and allow for pops of color throughout your space through the addition of pillows, draperies, fun accent furniture, or art. Outside, a neutral paint palette allows for a fresh, fun front door, an accent color on the shutters, or a darker color tone on trim and fascia. Flowers and greenery continue to accentuate the neutral exterior and add the proverbial “icing on the cake.”
However, don’t discount the fact that adding in your favorite non-neutral color in a dining room, powder bath, master bedroom or front door can truly enhance your space and help make it your own. Warm tones create a cozy, intimate feel, while fresh blues and greens paired with crisp whites create an airy, inviting space. Jewel tones, such as emerald green, ruby red, and sapphire blue are making a serious comeback and can add some intense richness and drama to a space.
Bring Neutrals to Your Home
Many clients use color to update their homes, both inside and out. More often than not, they tend to be wrapped up in what color is trending or popular. While there are certainly advantages to sticking with “in” colors, sometimes clients lose sight of what they actually like. Choosing the right color can also depend on your situation. If you are selling a home, going with a trendy, neutral color is certainly a wise choice for resale value of the home. However, if you are planning on staying in your home, the color choice is really up to you. Be bold and have some fun.
At the end of the day, it’s your home and you want to love it!
