Plainfield Painting Contractor Paints the Hummel Park Bridge

The bridge at Hummel Park is a landmark in the town of Plainfield that most people can pinpoint. Growing up in Plainfield, I have walked, biked, and ran across that bridge many time. When my company got the opportunity to paint and stain the bridge this year, we jumped at it. Being a Plainfield, Indiana painting contractor, we love to take on new challenges. We were lucky enough to be chosen as the painting contractor to re-finish the Hummel Park Bridge. Here is how we did it…

1. Tyler came out and power washed the whole thing. Tyler is an expert at pressure washing. He has washed over 1800 projects in the Indianapolis area for us at this point. He is detailed, methodical, and cares a lot about quality. He made sure that the Plainfield bridge was clean of any pollutants. It came very clean.
2. We scraped the bridge, scraped the bridge some more, and then scraped the bridge a lot more. It was in bad shape. It took a couple of days to scrape the failing paint off of all of the surfaces that were contracted to paint and stain.
3. We used 146 tubs of caulk! We caulked every gap and crack that was visible…and some that were not. We always use elastomeric caulk because it expands and contracts without popping in inclement weather.
4. Now that the surfaces were clean, scraped, and caulked, it was time for primer. We used a special primer that helps to prevent future peeling. We have had great success with this product.
5. Finally, it was time to paint. We slowly moved from side to side, making sure that all surfaces received even coats of paint and stain.

We were able to keep the bridge open for 90% of our process. We know how important it is for people to be able to get over White Lick Creek at the park.

Hopefully, we will get to paint and stain the bottom side of the bridge, and the posts next year. That looks to be how the painting budget will fall.
