How to Remove Paint from Tile and Grout
Whether it’s a little or a lot, paint can be hard to clean once it lands somewhere you don’t want it to. Unfortunately if you’re here, you probably don’t need me to tell you that. It can be tricky to remove paint from tile and grout, not to mention tedious. Here are the best ways to do it while protecting your floor:
When paint gets on tile there are a few ways to handle it. The first of course is to get a damp cloth and scrub the area, but if that doesn’t work, you will need something stronger. Try using a paint removing chemical to spray the area generously. We recommend using a product called Lift-Off. Allow this to soak on the paint for about a minute. After it has sat for a minute, take your cloth and again, scrub the area. This should do the trick, but if not, the last option is to take a razor blade or similar tool and lightly scrape away the paint from the tile. A good way to protect your floor when doing this is to continue applying paint remover and wiping away all paint chips as you scrape. The more level you can keep your blade as you scrape, the less likely you will be to scratch the tile. The longer the paint has been sitting on the tile, the harder it will be to remove.
The process for removing paint from grout is very similar to removing it from tile. This time however, you can skip the water and go straight to the paint remover. Apply paint remover to the affected spot and let it soak a minute. Then, take a clean cloth and scrub the grout thoroughly. Depending on how long the paint has been sitting, this should take the paint right off. If not, use a razor blade or similar tool to scrape away the paint until it is removed from the grout. Grout is a soft, porous material, so be mindful of the pressure you use when scraping it. Just like with the tile, it is important to wipe away the chipping paint as you scrape.
