Can You Paint a House in 1 Day?

The short answer is sometimes, but there are many factors that you must consider if you are trying to paint a house in 1 day.  The first question that you have to ask yourself is “Am I willing to risk the quality of my job for speed?”  If you answer yes to that question, you must take the following into account:

1. Size of the Paint Crew

  While a company like Elite Pro Painting can scale with many painters, that is normally not the approach that leads to the highest quality of work.  Paint crews are teams.  When you put two teams together, sometimes they have slight differences in how they work that make it difficult to gel together.  It would be like putting two basketball teams together on the court at the same time.  It sounds like it would help…but really people bump into each other. Communication and strategy is much more difficult, and there can be a lack of detail due to the size of the team.  It is normally better to have fewer people on a crew (3–5), that have good communication and supervision at all times.

2. Interior or Exterior

  Interior jobs are easier to attack as a large group because you can assign rooms and spread out a bit.  But again, you are hoping that the last person keeps a line of quality as detailed as the first.  When a timeline is put on a job, painting crews go into “rush mode”. This normally leads to mistakes and miscommunication which results in overlooked details.  While small exteriors can usually be painted in a day with detail and quality, there are many large exterior paint jobs that just aren’t feasible to paint properly.  In these cases, it is recommended to take the time to do it right, and to protect your home the right way.

3. Size of the House

 There are some homes that just simply cannot be painted in a day without an army.  Multiple crews can be added together, but that is more expensive and less stream-lined.  Size does matter.

Review

 At times it makes sense to try to finish a paint job in 1 day, and there are small to medium sized jobs that can be done in 1 day with multiple crews that turn out wonderfully.  It is recommended, however, that you consider a longer time frame so that quality does not have to be sacrificed for speed.  Professional painters are normally very fast at painting.  They can maintain efficiency while staying consistent in quality.  Though, from my experience, even the most professional painters can become sloppy and less detailed when they are rushed.  If you are able to, hire a smaller crew that cares, takes their time, and isn’t rushed into cutting corners.
